Slitting takes a wide master coil and cuts it lengthwise into narrower coils. The coil passes through rotating circular knives that split it into the finished widths, and each strip is rewound onto its own core.
The reason it matters is yield. If your roll former runs at 380 mm and the nearest stock width is 457 mm, every metre you run throws away 77 mm of aluminium plus the labour of trimming it. Slit to 380 mm and that waste disappears.
Kumar Aluminium slits from its own coil stock across nine mills, so the alloy, temper and thickness options are the same as our standard aluminium coil range — only the width changes.
Alloy and temper follow our coil stock list. Width is whatever you specify.

Tell us the finished slit width, thickness, alloy and tonnage. We slit from stock and quote the material and slitting together, the same working day.
Slitting is the process of cutting a wide aluminium coil lengthwise into narrower coils. The master coil passes through rotating circular knives that split it into the finished widths, which are then rewound onto separate cores.
Slit width depends on the thickness and the alloy. Share the width, thickness and alloy you need and we will confirm feasibility before quoting — very narrow strip at heavy gauge has practical limits.
Any alloy from our coil stock list, including 1050, 1060, 1100, 1200, 3003, 3105, 8011, 19000, 31000, 51300 and commercial grade CG, across Hindalco, Jindal, Nalco, Balco, Virgo, Inalco, Master’s India, Manaksia and Kalinga.
Buying a standard width and trimming to size creates edge scrap on every metre and adds a handling step. Slitting delivers the exact width your line needs, so material yield goes up and labour goes down.
Slitting coils are made to order, so lead time depends on the material being in stock and current workload. We confirm a realistic date along with the quotation rather than after the order.
Yes. A single master coil can be slit into several finished widths in one pass, which is usually the most economical option if you need more than one strip size in the same alloy and thickness.
