Raised pattern
An aluminium chequered sheet is a flat sheet with a raised pattern rolled into one face. The pattern breaks surface tension underfoot, so water, oil and dust do not turn the surface into a slip hazard. In Indian trade the same product is called tread plate, checker plate or durbar plate.
Because the base material is aluminium, the sheet does the job of a steel chequered plate at roughly a third of the weight, without needing galvanising or paint to survive outdoors. That combination is why it dominates industrial flooring, staircase treads, loading ramps and truck body decks.
Chequered sheet is rolled from the softer, more formable alloys — mainly the 3000 and 8000 series — because the pattern has to be pressed into the surface without cracking it.

Softest condition. Bends to tight radii without cracking the pattern. Best where the sheet is formed into steps, kick plates or wrapped edges.
The most common temper. Balances stiffness with the ability to bend. Suits flat flooring panels that also need some edge forming.
Stiffest option. Resists deflection when the panel spans between supports, but less tolerant of sharp bends.
Three standard sizes cover most flooring and body work. All cutting sizes are available as per requirement.

Foot traffic alone is comfortable on 1.5 mm to 2 mm. Trolleys, pallet jacks and continuous traffic want 3 mm. Vehicle loading or impact needs 4 mm and above. If the sheet spans between supports rather than sitting on a solid floor, go one step thicker.
Formed treads, wrapped edges and kick plates bend best in the F temper. Flat panels that only need edge folds are fine in H14. Avoid H16 for anything with a tight radius — the pattern can crack on the outside of the bend.

Kumar Aluminium stocks chequered sheets from 0.50 mm to 6.00 mm, equivalent to Gauge 25 down to Gauge 8. The quoted thickness is the base sheet thickness, measured excluding the raised pattern.
The common grades are 3105-F and 3105-H16 from Hindalco, Manaksia and Kalinga, 8011-H14 from Jindal, and 51300-H14 or commercial grade CG-H14 from Virgo, Inalco and Master’s India.
Standard sizes are 1220 x 2440 mm (4 ft x 8 ft), 1525 x 3050 mm (5 ft x 10 ft) and 813 x 3660 mm (32 inch x 12 ft). All cutting sizes are available as per requirement.
Yes. Aluminium forms a natural oxide layer that resists corrosion without painting or galvanising, which makes chequered sheet well suited to outdoor walkways, ramps and platforms.
Thickness is quoted as the base sheet thickness, not including the raised pattern. A 2 mm chequered sheet has a 2 mm base with the pattern standing proud of that surface.
Yes. In H14 and F tempers chequered sheet bends and welds well. For tight radii, keep the bend line running across the pattern rather than along it, and use the softer F temper where possible.
